Physical Features



Location

The United States of America is located in North America, it is north of Mexico and is south of Canada. It stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. America includes Mexico and Hawaii.

Size

Around 10000000 square kilometers, and is the fourth largest country in the world.

Rivers And Lakes

America has a large number of rivers and lakes. The most important lakes are the Mississippi and Missouri. Also America shares some lakes and rivers with Canada and Mexico. The Red River and Columbia are the most important rivers. The great lakes are also very important.

Landforms
The US shares many land forms with Canada and Mexico, also many Canadian highways head southwards towards the US. A few of the major national parks are Yellow Stone and Grand Canyon, national parks include geysers, hot spring, fossils and forests.

Climate
The weather in the US can also be used for an natural resource, it is ideal for growing a variety of fruits, vegetables and cereal crops such as wheat and corn. California and Florida produce many of the fruits and vegetables sold in Canada during the winter months. The climate in Hawaii produces tropical fruits such as pineapples. A large number of retired Canadians spend the winter in the southern US.

Natural Resources
Water resources provide fresh drinking resources, water for farming and industries, and power to generate hydroelectric power. The pacific, Atlantic oceans and the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, provide fish and seafood resources. There are large areas of farmland. Plains cover much of the US, the Imperial Valley in California, and Mississippi Valley contain some of the farmland.
